January was one hell of a year amirite ?! This month I thought I’d share my personal theme: connection. Releasing outdated, draining ones, creating new and inspiring ones, strengthening existing important ones, changing the way I connect online, and above all staying authentic so that my connections are genuine. 🤝

Popping online for the first time this year to remind you that news outlets have one goal : clicks. And their tactic is: fear - mongering.

The ‘new’ and ‘mysterious’ ‘surge’ of #hmpv in #china has led to fear mongering and xenophobic headlines reminiscent of COVID days. Really the only thing in this scenario that is anything like COVID.

HMPV was first discovered in 2001 in the Netherlands existing many years before that. The WHO has declared the rise in cases in China is not out of the norm for a flu like virus surge in winter. Much like we experience here in SA or anywhere else in the world.

The only difference is that it’s in China.

News outlets are slow to do a turn around on their initial reporting even with new evidence because it simply doesn’t serve them to report accurately or responsibly. Not a cute look.

Don’t let yourself be a pawn in hateful or harmful rhetoric and propaganda. This year we’re serving positivity, love and connection 😘

The latest crime stats tell us GBV impacts not just women and children but men too. In the bigger picture we are just the easiest targets in a cycle of a violent societal culture perpetuated by men. Violence starts outside the home and finds its way in. South Africa has a problem and women and children can’t solve it by ourselves.

We need to face the fact that men who abuse women and children are not strangers, they are people we know. It’s time to speak up and look in the mirror to see how we perpetuate this cycle. 🗣️

The truth is: #weallknowsomeone. Whether it’s a victim or an abuser. The time to act is now.
